Hi, neighbors,

I’m Alejandro Cáceres-Aranda!

About Me:

In February, an opening on the Robbinsdale City Council caught my eye — luckily, it was for Ward 4, where my lovely wife and I moved in April 2025. After conducting eight interviews, the sitting Council Members appointed me as the newest member of the City Council. Since then, it has been a pleasure serving this vibrant community.

I believe that my resume and work history set me apart from other candidates. With a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Minnesota and extensive experience collaborating with elected officials and organizations across both sides of the aisle, I bring a pragmatic, open-minded approach to my work. Much of my work history has been with nonprofit organizations focused on improving state-level government policies and outcomes at the legislature.

Furthermore, I am a proud first-generation American whose parents immigrated from Colombia in 2000. My whole life has been spent in the Twin Cities: St. Louis Park, Minneapolis, and now (my favorite) Robbinsdale. My lived experience as a child of immigrants brings a diverse perspective to the Council.

As a public servant, my main priority is to listen to my constituents and work to fulfill their needs. I am here to serve the residents and stakeholders of Ward 4 in Robbinsdale, and I strive to wholly represent the voices of our community.

Priorities

Public Safety - the most essential facet of a functioning community. I believe that public safety begins with community trust in law enforcement. I urge constituents to engage with law enforcement in safe, respectful manners. Simultaneously, trust in law enforcement is a two-way street; therefore, transparency and community engagement from law enforcement are equally important. I am proud to partner with local law enforcement to ensure that honest and efficient safety measures are in place to protect all residents and visitors of Robbinsdale.

Human Rights - I was appointed to the City Council in the midst of Operation Metro Surge, an unprecedented and aggressive involvement of the federal government in our city that devastatingly affected our immigrant communities. As a son of immigrant parents myself, I am proud to have been a strong supporter of the Separation Ordinance we passed, which prohibited ICE from staging on Robbinsdale government property. Additionally, I have consulted closely with the Human Rights Committee of Robbinsdale to stay on top of other human rights concerns within our community. I acknowledge that regardless of race, gender, religion, socioeconomic status, or political affiliations, human rights concerns can affect any one of us, and I continue to strive for a more equitable and welcoming Robbinsdale.

Community Engagement - A highlight of my experience serving on the City Council has been interacting with our city’s wonderful residents, businesses, and visitors. Recently, I organized a community forum with Attorney General Keith Ellison in attendance to ensure residents’ voices were heard regarding the potential merger of North Memorial. My wife and I are frequent visitors of small businesses and restaurants in downtown Robbinsdale, and I’m enthusiastic about attending community events such as Walk With City Council, plant sales, and Whiz Bang Days. As many of you know, my inbox is always open. I maintain straightforward communication with my constituents and have frequently sat down with residents to discuss their questions, comments, and concerns — often at the Wicked Wort over a cup of coffee. Serving on the City Council has offered me countless opportunities to get to know my neighbors. Again, I am here to serve the community, not the other way around.
